Novosibirsk State Art Museum
The Novosibirsk State Art Museum is one of the most significant collections of the Russian and foreign art in Siberia. It was founded on January 7, 1957 and opened to visitors on December 27, 1958. Since 1982 the museum is located in the building of the former Siberian Revolutionary Committee – an architectural monument of republican significance, built in 1926 by the project of the outstanding Siberian architect A.D. Kryachkov. Its exposition areas give a unique opportunity for the museums of the region to display more than 14% of stock collections in a permanent exhibition and organize up to 80 temporary exhibitions per year.The exposition of the museum presents examples of icon painting of the XVI — ХХ centuries; Paintings of the famous Russian painters of the XVIII – XIX centuries D.G. Levitsky, V.L. Borovikovsky, K.P. Brullov, I.I. Shishkin, I.I. Levitan, I.E. Repin, V.I. Surikov. The Russian art of the end XIX – first third of the XX century is presented by the works of K.A. Korovin, A.Y. Golovin, Z.E. Serebryakova, I.I. Mashkov, P.P. Konchalovsky, R.R. Falk, A.V. Shevchenko, K.S. Petrov-Vodkin and many other artists. The special part of the exposition is the collection of paintings by N.K. Roerich, relating to the late period of the artist’s life. The regional collection is displayed in the unique exhibition of Siberian art of the ХХ — beginning XXI century. Large place in the museum halls is devoted to the works of contemporary artists.
The traditional cooperation of the Novosibirsk State Art Museum with colleagues from the Siberian region, with the leading museums of Moscow and St. Petersburg, with the cultural representations of European countries in Russia allows it to lead the active and diverse exhibition activity that significantly influences to the development of the artistic life of the city. The annual number of visitors to its expositions, cultural, educational and educational programs – 150 thousand people – shows the role of the museum as one of the most significant cultural centers of Novosibirsk. One of the most vivid and large-scale creative projects of the Novosibirsk State Art Museum is the International Triennial (Biennale) of modern graphics, held since 1999.
